Washington Hospital
Investing in the health of the community

How advertising gave a hospital back it's future.

Overview | Full Story

To avoid closure, Washington Hospital had to make improvements and carry out seismic upgrades for earthquake safety. To achieve that end, we were tasked with persuading residents in San Francisco's East Bay to approve a $190 million bond measure. It was a seemingly impossible job, because getting the required 2/3 super majority vote would mean appealing to 43% of voters, who, for insurance purposes, received their healthcare from a Kaiser Hospital.

  • Our campaign made local people famous for being proud owners of an independent community hospital, and East Bay voters OK'd the bond measure.

  • A 223,000 sqft Critical Care Pavilion and Advanced ER, ICU and Coronary Care Unit was completed in 2018.

  • Today, Washington Hospital is consistently recognized as being one of the 100 best hospitals in America.
