Washington Hospital
Investing in the health of the community

How advertising gave a hospital back it's future.

To avoid closure, Washington Hospital was ordered to carry out extensive seismic upgrades and expand its capacity to provide life-saving services.

To achieve that end, we were tasked with persuading the residents of Alameda County, CA to approve a $190 million bond measure. Here's the rub: 43% of the electorate were obliged by their insurance provider to seek non-emergency care from a Kaiser hospital, and that would make getting a 2/3 super majority vote a seemingly impossible task.

Making the kind of advertising that works and that ought to exist in the world is always an act of faith. Faith in the basic goodness and intelligence of the people out there. Faith that one respectful, beautiful act could be worth thousands of cynical, assaultive ones.

  • 70.4% of the electorate put their faith in Washington Hospital by voting "yes" on Measure FF.

  • A 223,000 sqft Critical Care Pavilion, Advanced ER, ICU and Coronary Care Unit was completed in 2018.

  • Today, Washington Hospital is consistently recognized as being one of the 100 best hospitals in America.
